About Jeremy Beckwith

His career started in 1983 with Manulife (UK) as an equity portfolio manager. In 1986 he moved to become Head of Equities for Mitsubishi Finance International managing non-Japanese equity portfolios for Japanese institutions, before moving to Merrill Lynch Global Asset Management in 1990. Until 1998 he managed global equity and balanced portfolios for high net worth clients and institutions. He was then asked to join the ML International Equity Fund team (non-US equities for US investors) and asked to lead the combined Merrill Lynch and Mercury EAFE teams from 2000, taking the Fund from 99th percentile over the 5 years to October ’98 to 30th percentile over the 4 years to October ’02. In 2003 he joined Kleinwort Benson as Chief Investment Officer until his departure in late 2011. There he transformed the investment offering from a traditional UK-equity biased approach to private client investment to a globally diversified, multi-asset class offering, whose risk-rated Elite Fund range delivered excellent performance since their inception in 2006 and particularly in the 3 year period to September 2011. In June 2012 he became the interim Chief Investment Officer for Nutmeg, the online investment manager.  In November 2012 he became a Founder Partner of London Wall Partners, an independent financial adviser, until joining Morningstar in November 2014. He then joined Morningstar as Director of Manager Research, UK, heading the team responsible for their qualitative medal fund ratings, leaving in April 2016.

Jeremy has appeared regularly on Share Radio, Bloomberg TV, Reuters TV and CNBC and also on Sky News and the Jeff Randall Show. He is a well-known speaker on the economic and market outlook and the wider investment industry, having spoken at industry conferences and regularly speaks at CISI CPD events around the UK.

He holds a Degree in Economics from St. Catharine’s College, Cambridge.

Beckwith’s Blog started life in the summer of 2008, just as the financial world entered a tailspin. It was initially intended as a monthly thoughtpiece publication for the clients and employees of Kleinwort Benson and sought to explain and provide longer term insights of what was happening in the world of global economics, politics and financial markets amidst what can otherwise seem to be the blizzard of short term events and news that has to be found to fill newspapers and 24 hour financial news channels. The posts on this site represent my own views and do not represent the positions or opinions of my current employer.

Jeremy has acted as a guest speaker on current issues in economics and financial markets at conferences around the UK and Europe.

His presentations on financial markets are legendary amongst our clients. His delivery is confident and conversational. I have witnessed him silence and enthrall a room of 100+ people who had been drinking for over an hour with his thoughts on the global economy and the outlook for financial markets without use of notes or visual aides. Brilliant!” October 7, 2011

…I was impressed then, and continue to be, by Jeremy’s expertise and deep understanding of markets. You can always obtain the alternative view from Jeremy and his wide ranging analysis of various scenarios given to a particular investment or economic event is exceptional. An insightful and entertaining speaker. I regularly twisted Jeremy’s arm to speak at client and intermediary seminars. The client feedback was always excellent.” January 25, 2012
